The Perks of Healthy and Supportive Relationships
Strong and healthy relationships are key to your healthy life and happiness.
Individuals with solid friendships have the ability to better handle stress. It is very important to find those who will help you during hardships in life. One of the best ingredients of healthy and strong relationships is honest and open communication.
Work together to easily build and create a strong environment wherein both of you can feel secure and safe while expressing your dreams, hopes, and feelings with each other. Here are some of the communication skills to enhance for great results.
Effective communication skills:
Empathy- This is considered the ability to express and understand the interests of one another. It does not mean that you need to easily agree with it, all you need to do is to acknowledge it and at the same time try to understand. By doing this, you can show them that you truly care.
Acceptance- You need to recognize that you don’t have the ability to make your friend change. It is very important to take responsibility for your own actions, attitudes, and feelings. Trying to change your friend into the person you want them to be will not work. You can build strong and healthy relationships when you know the main purpose of acceptance.
Valuing others- You need to bear in mind that most people want to be loved, valued, and appreciated. It is very imperative to pay attention to your interactions with friends. Let them feel that they are valued and important. In this way building healthy relationships is one step closer to you.
Listening- The last thing you need to keep in mind, especially if you want to get a hold of a healthy and supportive relationship is to be a good listener. If you are chatting with your friends or family, make it a habit to have eye-to-eye contact and an open posture. Avoid crossing your legs and arms. Before giving your opinion, allow them to finish their stories.
If you have these effective communication skills, you can be sure that you can easily acquire the strong and healthy relationships that you are seeking.
Toxic Family, friends, and intimate relationships
It is ok to set boundaries and let toxic people go. Yes this even applies to family members! Always stand up for yourself and never allow another to walk over you! You can set healthy boundaries and love friends and family who are toxic to your mental health from afar. This does not make you a bad person, and those who make you feel as though you are — are called narcissists.
Healthy relationships can be found if sought. The issue is most don’t know the first step to take. They can’t use their voice for one reason or another and find it impossible to set boundaries. You control your life as well as those who you allow to enter.
If you are being abused in any way — Physical, emotional, mental, spiritual — GET AWAY! Thus are not your people and only love themselves and what they can get from you. Getting help is the hardest step you will take, but please seek help in your community. Nobody deserves to be mistreated and abused. You are better than what they can give you! Self-love is the most powerful love of all and I hope your journey takes you to find exactly that!
Until Next Time,
